Club Rides

*** Our club runs are typically held every Saturday, please contact the club via the contact form if you have any questions***

VC Revolution run regular club rides in and around Colchester, typically on a Saturday. These rides are an excellent introduction to cycling for those who are not experienced in terms of group riding. Our ethos is that the club rides are at the pace of the slowest rider. Depending on numbers, an additional faster tempo group often provides a good training session for those who are interested in competing. Non-members are welcome but are encouraged to join after a couple of rides.

Communication is key on group rides. Please listen to the briefing before we set off and the ride leader, as well as fellow riders, during the ride and ensure that you follow the rules of the road as set out in the Highway code.

These ten top tips on riding in a group and the information below should be useful.

What should I bring on a club ride?

Obviously a road worthy bike is required and the knowledge and equipment to repair a puncture is required. It is a good idea to bring a spare inner tube, mini pump, multi tool, money (for the cafe stop), mobile phone, food and drink, as well as some form of identification and a contact number. Apart from that a friendly attitude and love of cycling is all you’ll need to fit in!

While it is not a legal requirement to wear a helmet while cycling for recreational purposes, we strongly recommend members wear one on club rides for your safety and wellbeing.

What if it’s raining?

We’re hardy souls so we usually ride in all weather (apart from icy conditions) and year round. It’s good etiquette to other riders to fit mud guards to your bike during the winter months – when riding in a group it keeps those behind you from getting covered in mud!

What sort of speed are the rides?

Our ethos is that the club rides go at the pace of the slowest rider. The Saturday club run normally has two or three groups. The social group will typically ride at between 16-18 mph, while the slightly faster group are likely to be at a pace of around 18-20 mph, although this depends on the time of year, weather conditions and which riders turn up. Please speak to the group leader or another member of the group if you are struggling or have an issue, we’re always happy to help.

How long are club rides?

Our club rides are typically about 35-40 miles long. However, some of us like to add a few more miles on at the start or end, or may need to turn off early if we have other commitments. If this is the cas just let others know what your plans are.
