***We welcome new and current members on our club rides. However, for safety reasons relating to COVID-19 and the close proximity of riders on our club rides, we do not plan to recommence VCR club runs until the two-metre social distancing rule is relaxed. Please do contact the club via the contact form if you have any questions***
The club operates a social club ride from Colchester on Saturday mornings. The pace is always dictated by the slowest rider and nobody gets left behind.
If you’re keen to learn more about the club or want to learn the art of group riding then feel free to come along and join us on a Saturday club ride. Non-members are invited, although you are encouraged to join the club either as a first or second claim member after a couple of rides.
Saturday Club Rides
On a Saturday we typically meet at the junction of St Johns Road and Parsons Heath (A137) opposite the former Lindhill Car dealership (map here). Our official ride meets at 9am and leaves at 9.10 sharp.
The ride covers around 40 miles, usually with an average speed of between 16-18mph, though nobody gets left behind. The ride always incorporates a cafe stop after about 30 miles so bring some money for a coffee and slice of cake!
Sometimes if there are lots of us we’ll split up into a faster and social group.
The route typically heads out from Colchester towards Clacton before turning through Wix then on to the cafe stop before returning back to Colchester.
Some Saturday morning’s we may use an alternative route or an alternative meeting point / time. This information will always be shared before hand on the VC Revolution Cycling Club Facebook page or our Twitter feed.
If you’re feeling fit quite often some hardy souls will meet at 8am in order to get an extra hours riding in before meeting the others at the 9am point mentioned above. The usual meeting point for the 8am crew is the Greenstead Roundabout near Tesco (here) on the path on the edge of the roundabout nearest Tesco. Those that are opting for the 8am start usually post up on the Facebook group so best to check there first.
